Yellow archangel inhabits moist soil habitats and can send above ground roots (stolons) up to a meter.

Why is it important to control?

It has an aggressive growth habit that allows it to take over lightly shaded areas with moist, nutrient rich soils. Yellow archangel can out compete native under-story ground species.

How can you identify it?

Habitat: Prefers moist soils in forested parks, riparian areas, and greenbelts.
Life Cycle: Perennial
Height: 1-2 feet
Leaf Description: Oval-shaped leaves that grow opposite on stem. Hairy with toothed edges. May have silvery-grey markings.
Fruit & Flower Description: Small, yellow flowers that are two lipped.
Bloom Time: April to June

How do you control it?

  • Manually remove when soil is moist. Dispose of plant material in tied bag and place in trash.

  • Dense infestations can be controlled by sheet mulching.
