We have two opportunities to share with Yamhill County residents, both related to agrivoltaics! If you’re unfamiliar with agrivoltaics, this is the practice of combining agriculture with solar energy production. This can be either crop agriculture or animal agriculture. This can have positive effects on both solar production and agricultural production!

The first upcoming event is a virtual webinar run by Sustainable Northwest. More information and registration can be found HERE. This event will take place on May 21st, 2024, from noon-1 pm, and feature two speakers. Topics include specific examples of use of agrivoltaics, some analysis of the benefits, key challenges, siting and permitting in Oregon, and dual-use agrivoltaics.

That virtual event will be a great lead-up to an in-person event organized by Jordan Anderson at Yamhill SWCD! That event will take place on June 11th, 2024, at 1 pm, at Oregon State University’s North Willamette Research and Extension Center, 15210 NE Miley Rd Aurora, OR 97002. The center has agrivoltaics research projects utilizing grazing and solar energy production together, as well as crop production under solar energy panels. The tour will be run by OSU researchers who work on this project, so it’s a great opportunity to hear about new research and recent results of agrivoltaics studies! This event is open to the public, free of charge, so please come out and learn about how solar could potentially fit in with your agricultural production practices!
