Yamhill SWCD is excited to announce we are partnering with Deschutes SWCD, North Fork John Day Watershed Council, and non-profit Spark Northwest to provide energy development assistance to rural small businesses, farms, and agricultural producers throughout Oregon. This funding comes from the USDA Rural Renewable Energy Development Assistance (REDA) program and aims to increase implementation of renewable energy generation in rural areas for on-site use. Through on-site energy generation rural farms and businesses will be able to lower operating costs, promote business sustainability, and have a more resilient operation.

Over 24 months, the project team will work together to evaluate renewable energy opportunities and provide renewable energy development assistance directly to rural small businesses, farms, and agricultural producers. The project will provide education to at least 300 entities, engage with at least 150 farmers and small businesses about energy opportunities, provide project-specific consultations for at least 40 of these entities, and shepherd at least 26 energy projects successfully through the development phase.

Yamhill SWCD plans to partner with Oregon State University to provide tours of their agrivoltaic projects that integrate solar energy generation and agricultural production. Stay tuned for upcoming event dates!

The District understands the importance of protecting farmland and this program does not promote utility-scale commercial solar installation projects that replace high value farmland. Our outreach and technical assistance will include information on local zoning and permitting to ensure projects adhere to local regulations.
