Supports mosses, ferns and lichens, provides seeds and habitat for wildlife. Yellow fall color. Excellent shade producer.
Habitat Notes: Common along larger waterways in the county. Needs moist soils that are well-drained year around. Top often dies during 1st year, but resprout extremely likely. A favorite of Yamhill Co. deer. Very susceptible to heart rot which creates great cavities for wildlife.
ID Notes: Hanging clusters of flowers before leaves open in very early spring. Large fanning leaves which turn golden to orange in fall.
