Beginning in March 2023, Yamhill Soil & Water Conservation District became the lead organization for the Pesticide Stewardship Partnership (PSP) program. Previously, the Greater Yamhill Watershed Council (GYWC) managed this program from 2012 to 2022. We appreciate the hard work GYWC has put into developing this program and we will continue to partner with them moving forward.

The PSP program is an inter-agency endeavor between Oregon Department of Agriculture (ODA), Oregon Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ), and local conservation districts or watershed councils to conduct water quality sampling activities. Water quality samples will be collected between March and October in urban (Cozine Creek, McMinnville) and agricultural (Palmer Creek, Dayton) areas. Those samples are then sent to DEQ’s laboratory to be analyzed for 100+ pesticides.

In fall 2023 we will be offering a water quality training workshop in partnership with Oregon State University, ODA, and DEQ. This course will count towards licensed pesticide applicators recertification credits. This workshop will address Best Management Practices (BMP’s) to protect water quality, include hands-on Integrated Pest Management (IPM) exercises, and the most recent pesticide data for the Yamhill PSP will be presented.

Additionally annual community events will take place in spring 2024. Topics covered will include: what pesticides of concern are being detected, their impact on aquatic organisms, and what conservation practices can help to improve water quality & native habitat.
