Native Plant Walk

Dave Hanson (Native Plant Society of Oregon) leads a Native Plant Walk.

This event was a huge success! We had over 300 participants, primarily families with younger kids. Around 15-20 kids joined the Nature Stretch, and at least 50 kids participated in the Fun Run! All participants received a free plant, sponsored by Head Start of Yamhill County. Several partners also attended and set up booths. Outdoor Education Adventures was a hit with their pond exploration activities, looking at macroinvertebrates under microscopes, and even seeing a Rough Skinned Newt. OSU Extension Master Gardeners, Native Plant Society, Head Start of Yamhill County, Greater Yamhill Watershed Council, and Edible Landscapes of Yamhill County all participated. Rob Tracey with Native Plant Society presented on Introducing Native Plant to your Landscape, and Dave Hanson with Native Plant Society led a Guided Native Plant Hike. We learned that 75 vehicles is the absolute maximum capacity for events at Miller Woods, and that included parking people in the middle of the lower lot, along the road, and up at the house. The plant sale was very successful, raising over $1,400 to support the new kiosk! We all had a great time and are looking forward to making small improvements next year.
