The Yamhill Valley was covered with sprawling prairies and oak savannas, with the Yamhill winding through its valley floor. Since pioneer settlement, the need for timber, farmland, and cities has continued to grow with the growing population in the Yamhill Valley. Now, only 25% of oak habitat remains in Oregon, and only 7% here in the Willamette Valley. Less than 1% of upland prairie remains.
