SUMMARY:Paddle & Pull with Willamette Riverkeeper
DESCRIPTION:Join Willamette Riverkeeper\, Yamhill Soil & Water Conservation District\, and Oregon Parks & Recreation Department for the third “Paddle & Pull” event of the summer. Come spend the day with us to paddle a beautiful Willamette River side channel from Ediger Landing to Grand Island Greenway and help hand-pull aquatic invasive species Ludwigia (water-primrose)\, Myriophyllum aquaticum (parrotfeather)\, and more. These aquatic weeds continue to degrade fish & wildlife habitat in our rivers and have negative impacts on our native vegetation\, water quality and the overall watershed health. This is an on-water event\, so experience on moving water is recommended. We have ten tandem canoes (20 seats) for volunteers. If you’d like to borrow one for the day you MUST SELECT this option in the “Add On” section of registration. Reserve a seat\, and make a new friend! \nThere are kayaks available for up to 20 participants\, so make sure you sign up today to reserve your spot! \nRegister Online HereLearn more about Water PrimroseSee Project HighlightsLearn more about Garden Yellow Loosestrife

SUMMARY:Perseid Party
DESCRIPTION:You are invited to a rare after-dark event at Miller Woods! Normally\, Miller Woods is closed after sunset… But this is a special opportunity to see Miller Woods at night\, and hopefully see some meteors as well! \nThe Perseid Meteor Shower is an annual meteor shower that comes around each August. The year\, the peak night is August 12th. We will still have a 3/4 moon\, but hopefully we will be able to spot a few meteors before the moonrise! \nThere is no cost for this event\, but we do appreciate donations to Miller Woods to keep the space up and running. The suggested donation “entry fee” is $5. It’s thanks to contributions from park visitors that we’re able to maintain Miller Woods as a public space! \nThis event will also include brief educational presentations by volunteers from Oregon Dark Sky and the Carlton Observatory. \nMake a Donation to Miller WoodsRegister Online Here

SUMMARY:District Board Meeting
DESCRIPTION:See Board Meeting Agendas & Minutes\nLocation and Access \nNew location in 2025! Board meetings will now take place in the conference room at the Yamhill County Public Works Office. \n2060 NE Lafayette Ave.\nMcMinnville\, OR 97128 \nThe meeting will be held in-person at Public Works OR via Zoom. \nRemote Participation \nThe district is providing an option for people to listen and participate by conference call. This option complies with Oregon Public Meeting and Records Law requirements\, by allowing the public to hear the discussion and deliberation of district business. \nJoin Phone Conference Call \n\nCall: 1-646-568-7788\n\nThen Meeting ID followed by #: \n\nEnter: 964 7583 2966 #\nEnter: # (When asked for participant ID)\n\nJoin Zoom Video Conferencing \nhttps://zoom.us/j/96475832966 \nMeeting Facilitation \nThe board chair will be facilitating the meeting. The chair will instruct those talking on the phone to identify themselves and follow the district’s normal meeting rules and procedures. \nFor board members or others involved in agenda items\, please present information or motions clearly so district staff can accurately record the appropriate information for the minutes. \nScope of Agenda\nThe board will limit the agenda to essential business items that are needed for operations and to fulfill requirements. The agenda will be focused primarily on topics that need board action. Updates and discussion on projects or district activities that do not require board action will be postponed to a future meeting. \nConservation Partners Reports/Updates\nThe district typically provides an opportunity for conservation partner updates. To save time and limit the need for verbal updates\, the district suggests conservation partners submit written reports to the district. If conservation partners need time for a short verbal update\, the chair requests brevity. Written reports may be emailed to allison@yamhillswcd.org \nPublic Comment\nAs with all board meetings\, there will be opportunity for public comment. Public comment is typically limited to five minutes\, unless the chair provides an extension of time. As a reminder\, public comment may be submitted in writing. This option allows members of the public to provide comments to the extent desired\, without a five-minute limitation. \nSummary\nThank you for considering the use of the conference call for the upcoming District Board Meeting to help the district ensure public safety. If you have questions about the meeting and use of the conference call option\, please contact Allison at least 24 hours in advance of the meeting at 503-472-6403.

SUMMARY:Cover Crop Field Tour
DESCRIPTION:We will hear from OSU researchers about preliminary results of new research on the impacts of cover crops on soil and orchard health. Speakers include: farmers Jeff Newton and Zach Christensen\, Dragomira Zheleva\, whose research focuses on water availability and water retention in the soil both with and without cover crops; Chris Lessey\, whose research is related to moderating soil temperature with cover crops; Matt Tippet-Vannini\, whose research investigates the relationship between cover crops and water infiltration. OSU Professor Shannon Cappellazzi will touch on cover crop effects on soil health and Natalie Edward with NRCS will demonstrate differences in management practices on water infiltration and erosion with a rain simulation system. \nAnyone with an interest in cover crops should attend! While we will be in a hazelnut orchard\, and learning about research conducted primarily in hazelnuts\, cover crops can be used in a wide variety of agricultural and even home garden contexts. We hope to see you there! \nDetailed directions and parking instructions will be provided to attendees one week prior to the event. \nThis is a free event organized by Polk SWCD\, Yamhill SWCD\, Oregon State University\, and NRCS. Coffee and snacks will be provided. Registration is required. \nRegister Online Here
