DESCRIPTION:You are invited to join the Oregon Invasive Species Council on Wednesday\, July 16th\, at Willamette Mission State Park (9:30 am – noon) on a field tour celebrating Mid-Willamette aquatic weed partnerships and other aquatic invasive species activities. This event will highlight the critical work being done along the mid-Willamette River to prevent and manage invasive aquatic species and identify future challenges. The tour will showcase three Oregon Lottery-funded grant projects\, providing participants with a firsthand look at key projects and partnerships along the Willamette River. These projects\, undertaken by the Benton Soil and Water Conservation District\, the Yamhill Soil and Water Conservation District\, and Willamette Riverkeeper\, address aquatic weeds and their adverse effects on water quality and water users\, encompassing a range of stakeholders from irrigators to recreational users. \nRegister Online Here

SUMMARY:April Conservation Book Club
DESCRIPTION:The District has started a book & film club with McMinnville Public Library! \nThe next meeting will be on April 15th at 6pm\, in the Carnegie Room. This meeting will be a little different than previous months — based on interest from the group last month and in other conversations with local residents recently\, we’ll be using the book club as a time to start considering restoration and native planting plans to use at home. In the spirit of this idea\, instead of suggesting a single book for everyone to read\, we have several suggestions that can be found at the library or for free online: \n\nNorthwest Home Landscaping by Roger Holmes (book)\nGardening With Native Plants of the Pacific Northwest by Arthur Kruckeberg (book)\nEncyclopedia of Northwest Native Plants for Gardens and Landscapes by Kathleen Robson (book)\nA Way To Garden by Margaret Roach (podcast)\nThe Evergreen Thumb by Washington State University Master Gardeners (podcast)\nNative Plant Picks for Bees from OSU Extension (article)\nFirewise Landscaping Checklist from Oregon.gov (article)\nDrought-Tolerant Garden by Over the Fence Landscape Tours (video)\nContainer Gardening by Growing in the Garden (video)\nOr anything else you may find of interest related to landscaping and gardening in the Pacific Northwest (the library has lots of options!)\n\nThe above list  is not all-encompassing\, it’s just meant to give you some ideas. If you find yourself struggling to find exactly what you’re looking for\, feel free to contact district Outreach & Education Specialist Brooke Karasch at brooke@yamhillswcd.org for research help. While the district focuses quite a bit on native plants\, don’t feel that you have to limit your own goals to only native plants. This will be a collaborative conversation about how we can best support a wide variety of landscape goals in the county! \nWe encourage all who are interested to attend. Don’t feel like you need to a read a book cover-to-cover this month; take some time to assess your space\, consider what your goals might be\, and then look through some books or other materials to spark creative ideas. \nFuture books and documentaries will be decided by the group\, so come with options for what you’d like to discuss next!

DESCRIPTION:The District has started a book & film club with McMinnville Public Library! This book club will run from November through March. \nThe next meeting will be on March 18th at 6pm\, in the Carnegie Room. The February book will be The Once and Future World: Finding Wilderness in the Nature We’ve Made by J.B. MacKinnon. The library system has a couple of copies of the book available for checkout. Always look around and see where you can find the best deals if you’d like to purchase a copy\, and support your local bookstores and libraries! \nWe encourage all who are interested to attend. If you don’t have time to read the book\, the author also wrote an article about dam removal on the Klamath River that could spark conversations! If you’re more of a podcast listener than a reader\, he was also interviewed on the Ethical Agriculture Podcast about one of his other books\, exploring the topic of local food. \nFuture books and documentaries will be decided by the group\, so come with options for what you’d like to discuss next! Although the March date was initially intended to be the last book club before we all start spending our evenings outside in the warmer weather\, we will also discuss possibly moving the time and continuing the book club year-round.

DESCRIPTION:Hello everyone! \nRegistration for the McMinnville Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) Collection Event is now open! \nThe event will be held: Saturday\, September 28th\, 2024 at the Yamhill County Fairgrounds from 9am-2pm. Registration is required! \nPlease review the list of HHW items that can be recycled locally year round (especially if you have household batteries\, rechargeable batteries\, paint\, compact fluorescent light bulbs– you may be able to recycle them before the event and not need to attend!): https://www.yamhillcounty.gov/377/Local-HHW-Recycling-Spots \n  \nIf you plan to attend the collection event on September 28th\, please remember: \n\nRegistration is required.
