A Huge Thank You to Clay Wesson and Loyd Jones of Willamette Valley Vineyards!!!

A huge shout out to Clay Wesson and Loyd Jones of Willamette Valley Vineyards for their generous donation of 42 used Wine Totes to Yamhill Soil & Water Conservation District! The District now has ample totes for future Native Plant sales and other uses at their Miller Woods Nursery!

Due to COVID-19 and State directives, Miller Woods will be closed at noon on Monday, March 23, 2020 until further notice

Update: March 23, 9:00 a.m.

From:  Executive Director, Larry Ojua

The Yamhill Soil and Water Conservation District (district) has been monitoring the guidance and requirements issued by the State of Oregon for Coronavirus (COVID-19), relating to public health and safety, social distancing, and for access to public venues such as Oregon State Parks.  Our district has been paralleling  the policy of Oregon State Parks regarding access.  On March 22, Oregon State Parks announced that all State Parks will be closed starting Monday, March 23, 2020.

The COVID-19 situation is very fluid and in order to follow Governor Kate Brown’s order to maintain social distance, the district has made the difficult decision to close Miller Woods beginning at noon, Monday, March 23.  This decision is consistent with Oregon State Parks policy.

The length of the closure is undetermined.  However, we anticipate the closure could last through May 8, consistent with the State’s policy.  The district will continue to monitor the requirements issued by the State of Oregon and local authorities, and determine whether Miller Woods can be opened at an earlier date.

Public Safety Is Paramount

We understand Miller Woods is popular with our local residents and schools.  It is a great place to walk, jog, learn, and experience nature.  With school closures, business closures, and some cities closing parks, gyms, and other common social gathering areas,  Miller Woods has seen a sharp increase in attendance just in the last week.  The increased attendance is placing more pressure on the property and use of the porta potties.  The district cannot provide adequate staffing to clean and monitor restrooms, which creates a potential risk for our guests.

This is a very difficult decision.  Our district understands the value of being outdoors.  We had hoped to keep Miller Woods open.  Unfortunately, we are unable to do so.

During this uncertain time, we hope Yamhill County residents will stay safe and follow recommendations provided by local and state officials.

The district office located at 2200 SW 2nd Street in McMinnville is closed, and we are unable to provide our regular level of service.  We are responding to email and telephone inquiries. Please refer to our website at www.yamhillswcd.org   for contact information.   In the future, we will be reaching out to individuals who are “Friends of Miller Woods,”  to provide information about memberships.

Thank you for your support of Miller Woods, and your understanding during this critical time.  Please stay healthy and safe.
