Orange-red fruit are especially attractive to birds.  Large creamy, white showy flower bracts which bloom in spring.

Habitat Notes: Shade loving understory tree. Occurs in moist well drained soils with high organic matter.  Sunburns easily and is vulnerable to diseases and insect damage.

ID Notes:  Can take a tree or shrub form.  Easiest to identify in the spring when it’s creamy white flowers open. Leaves are veined, soft and pliable.
